How to view and forward logs to OpenTelemetry in Studio Two
Updated: 2 days ago
Open the Logs page under Developer Tools > Logs in the site dashboard, or from the Code tab in the Studio Two editor. To keep logs longer than 24 hours, add a Logs endpoint on the Signal Forwarding page with your OpenTelemetry endpoint URL.
Before you start
You must own the site, or hold a collaborator role that includes access to developer tools.
Your code must write entries with the monitoring client from @wix/essentials. console output is not logged.
For forwarding, have an OpenTelemetry collector or a logging service that accepts OpenTelemetry logs over HTTP.
Get the full logs endpoint URL, plus an authorization header if the endpoint requires one.
Step by step
Open the Logs page. In the site dashboard, select Developer Tools > Logs. Or open the Code tab in the Studio Two editor, click Developer Tools on the left edge, and select Logs. The page opens in Live mode with entries from the last hour, newest first.
Read the entry list. Each entry shows severity (DEBUG, INFO, WARNING or ERROR), time, message, source file and request ID. Entries from the same request share a request ID. The source file is the bundled file in your built code, not a file in your project.
Choose a time range. Use the time range menu to stay in Live mode or pick a fixed period from Last 5 minutes up to Last 24 hours. Live mode keeps the newest 100 entries. In fixed ranges, older entries load as you scroll.
Filter, search and inspect entries. Use the severity menu to show Errors, Warnings, Info or Debug. Search matches message and source file text only. Click an entry to open Log details, where you can see the full JSON and click Copy.
Control the live stream and columns. Click Pause to hold incoming entries, then Resume to add them. Clear empties the list without deleting entries. To change columns, click the column settings icon next to Search and use the Customize columns panel.
Open Signal Forwarding. Select Developer Tools > Signal Forwarding in the dashboard. You can also click Forward Logs on the Logs page, or use Developer Tools in the Code tab of the editor.
Add a logs endpoint. Click Add Endpoint and select Logs under Signal. Enter a Name and the full Endpoint URL of your logs path, for example https://collector.example.com/v1/logs. Wix does not append /v1/logs. Add the authorization header name and value if needed, then click Save Endpoint.
Check that entries arrive. Run code that writes a log entry, then look for it in your collector or logging service. Only entries written after you saved the endpoint are forwarded. Each one arrives as an OpenTelemetry log record.
Manage endpoints. The Signal Forwarding page lists your endpoints. You can edit, disable, enable or delete each one. A disabled endpoint keeps its settings but receives no entries.
Good to know
Wix keeps log entries for 24 hours. Forwarded entries also stay on the Logs page for that time.
Wix sends entries with the OpenTelemetry Protocol over HTTP, encoded as protobuf and compressed with gzip.
A site can have up to ten endpoints. Studio Two has no Google Cloud Logs or external logging tool connections like Wix Editor and Wix Studio.
Forwarded records include wix.site.id and wix.app.id as resource attributes. The createdDate, appId and siteId fields appear only on the Logs page.
The live stream pauses after 15 minutes without activity on the page. Click Resume to continue.
Forwarded entries leave Wix, so do not log passwords, API keys, tokens or visitors' personal data.
parnii note
Test forwarding with a throwaway log entry before relying on it, and review what your code logs first, since forwarded entries leave Wix. Name each endpoint after its environment so it is easy to tell apart.
FAQ
Why don't my console.log messages show on the Logs page in Studio Two?
The Logs page does not capture console output. Write entries with the monitoring client from @wix/essentials. Uncaught backend errors are logged automatically.
How long does Studio Two keep logs?
Wix keeps log entries for 24 hours. To keep them longer, forward them to an OpenTelemetry endpoint through Signal Forwarding.
Why does my OpenTelemetry endpoint receive no logs from Studio Two?
Check that the Endpoint URL is the full logs path, because Wix does not add /v1/logs. Also check the authorization header, that the endpoint is enabled, and that new entries were written after saving.
